I volunteered on the WBCN Listener Line for 8 years and have many memories. One memory that stands out in particular is the time that Charles asked me to accompany Arlene Brahm in the production studio.
As it turns out, Arlene was trying to make a BCN promo as "Chesty Morgan", a famous stripper who was appearing in Boston's Combat Zone at the time. From what I understand, Arlene's voice wasn't deep enough, but mine was.
I did it in one take with bubble noises playing in the background...and, to my surprise, with a German accent. It went something like, "This is Chesty Morgan and whenever I'm in Boston, I listen to family radio WBCN."
Charles played it on his show every morning for months and I'm sure everyone thought it was really Chesty, but I knew differently.
Another time, Charles put me live on the air to say, "Hi, This is Jim Morrison and wherever I am, I listen to WBCN." Not one person called to comment that Jim Morrison was not only dead, but surely was not a woman. Charles happily exclaimed, "We got away with it!"
I thank you for the work getting everyone there. I know it meant so much to everyone, and very much to me for a variety of reasons. I might have a story or two but for now wanted to let ou know I posted the shots I got on my photo website that is only halfway there but... it is lucywightmanphotography.com. More some other time. love, Lucy
I'm a little foggy about the year (obviously), but I think it was around 1991 at a Rock of Boston Concert at the old Boston Garden.
The BCN crew were making themselves at home in the Owner's Suite at the Garden during the concert. I had prepared some party favors for the occasion and felt the time was right to ignite. I lit one and realized there were a couple of key members of the team that should be there to enjoy. I handed the burning femur to Don Bertolino (names have not been changed to protect anyone) and proceeded out the door to gather the rest of the group.
As I reached the end of the hallway, I turned around only to see Tony Berardini heading towards to the Smoking Suite. With no way to alert the group (pre-cell phone era) I stood back and waited for the fireworks, thankful for my good timing and the fact that I had many more pre-rolled in my pocket.
Needless to say, there was an ass-whooping that I believe was based on a perceived lack of respect for the highest VIP suite that the Garden had to offer.
This just one of many times times that members of the team were busted getting high on my supply. Each time they kept their mouths shut and took the "hit". This was a code among family members and I would reciprocate for any of them at any time.
